Description |
Gray stone sculpture of the female Buddhist deity Mahasitavati depicted with three heads and eight arms. The figure sits on a plain throne with the drapery hanging below it. Two demons are seen crouching beneath the pedestal on either side of the central drapery. The figure carries in her upper right hand a sword, the next right hand a vajra (diamond or thunderbolt), in the third right arm a stalk of corn and in the other hand an open lotus. In the top left hand she carries a book, the following left hand holds an unidentfied object, in the third she holds a bow, and the fourth rests on her left leg. The goddess in seated in meditative asana. 17th century. |
