Description |
Ebri statue. Wood, brown color. Female figure with hands behind the back. Prominent thighs and lower legs as is typical of Ebri statues. There is a prominent umbilicus and five upraised small circular bead-like papules surrounding it. Three such papules are present across the upper chest, one on each upper cheek and one between the eyebrows. The statue has a ringed neck, backward pointing triangular ears and a coiffure decorated with numerous incised criss-crossed lines that create diamond shaped forms. The statue has three rows of small blue beads around the waist and a necklace of slightly larger white and blue beads. A very old colonial era coin is attached to the necklace as a pendant. The statue is extensively patinated in areas where it was subjected to handling over the years. This is a very old statue dating to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. |
